Our Story

Growing one’s own food and plant medicine, raising small livestock, and living a sustainable homesteading lifestyle has long been second nature to us here at Blue Rose Micro Farm. Certified herbalist and native New Englander Denise Wolfe spent 20 years living in central North Carolina.  During this time Denise began homesteading on a small 1/4 acre of land. Gardening and growing food for her family expanded to chicken keeping and sustainable green kitchen and home practices.  Awareness of how food traveled from its growing space to the table was a driving force in reclaiming one's home and health. Fully living in and utilizing land space became key.  Omitting the middleman became the goal.

Denise began hand crafting her own natural home and body care recipes for use on her children and in her home. She began gifting these hand crafted items to friends and family. From this Old Colony and Ivy was born - a line of chemical free home and body care products.  In 2016 Denise began selling her herbal and essential oil based goods at farmers markets and in local shops. Denise continued her education and became certified in aromatherapy and permaculture.

In 2018 Denise moved her  family back to her hometown of Somerset, Massachusetts, where they settled in her childhood neighborhood of the Historic Somerset Village. The one acre plot has slowly transformed (and it still transforming!) into a fully functional suburban homestead and medicinal herb farm.

Although well versed in working with herbs and plant medicines for over 25 years, Denise returned to school in 2020 and officially earned her Level 1 and Level 2 certifications in Medicinal Herbalism from Farmacy Herbs in Providence, RI. She went on to spend the 2021 growing season as an intern for Farmacy Herbs at their herb farm in West Greenwich, RI. This internship was invaluable in the learning process of plant medicine making and farming medicinal herbs in a New England setting.

Blue Rose is one acre suburban homestead along the New England Southcoast. The micro farm offers seasonal fresh eggs, cut flowers, herbs, and microgreens. Online orders of natural home and body care products, medicinal herbs, and workshops in homesteading and herbalism will be available beginning in Spring/Summer of 2023.
